On-Line Information Sessions
Two on-line information sessions were held on 18 March 2024, during which students had a chance to learn more about the Summer School as well as meet the academic coordinators and staff. Recording available upon request.
Contents
The Summer School explore the issue of the regulation of international human mobility, which in recent years has triggered heated controversies (and sometimes conflicts) in many areas of the world.
Migration has become an issue in sending, transit and receiving countries. The lack of an adequate international migration regime has exacerbated these tensions, among and beyond the nation-states. Moreover, migration has morphed into an important dimension of geopolitical conflict (the so-called ‘weaponization of migration’ thesis).
Therefore, the migration policy framework established in the ‘90s, at the end of the Cold War, is rapidly crumbing.
Understanding the structure and evolution of migration policies has become a pre-requisite for any adequate understanding of contemporary world affairs.
The Summer School will provide a comparative view of international migration policy involving experts from Europe and North America.
The core of the summer school will be a group of “compact” classes that will daily develop a specific topic, such as:
- the Emerging Migration State
- the International Refugee Regime
- Integration and Labor market Participation
- Migration, Diversity and Urban Life
Classes will be accompanied by workshops where students will practice certain activities, both individually and in groups. Students will have a chance to familiarise with the challenges of doing empirical research on international migration as well as explore some important, but still neglected, areas of migration research. Interested students will have the chance to present their research projects.
Participating students will enhance:
- practical skills in acquiring and checking information on internal migration policies;
- collaborative skills through group work;
- public speaking and academic presentation skills for those students will to present their research project
