Application package

The complete application for the Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction consists of:

To apply for the Master's course in Human-Computer Interaction, please access the MHCI online application and complete it accurately.
Please note that no paper nor email applications will be accepted.

Bachelor's degree and official University transcripts

A first-level degree (at least three years) awarded by an internationally recognized university-level institution is the minimum requirement in order to apply for the Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction. You are required to scan a copy of your degree and attach it to the application in the dedicated area. Students who still have not completed their first-level degree, but that expect to graduate respectively:

  • before June 30, 2024 (for non-EU students resident abroad)
  • before September 30, 2024 (for EU students or non EU-students permanent resident in Italy)
  • have to provide an enrollment certificate from their university stating their expected graduation date (Italian applicants can provide a self-declaration).

In addition, you are required to inform us about the single courses you passed in your previous and/or actual degree, providing a list with the title and grade of each exam, and final mark (i.e. University transcripts). All the documents must be written or translated in English or Italian.

Official English language certificate

For detailed information concerning type, duration and validity of the certification, please check carefully the guidelines set out by the Language Centre of the University of Trento. According to the guidelines the following tests are accepted:

  • FCE (First Certificate in English): level B2
  • BEC (Business English Certificate): level Vantage
  • BULATS: score 60-74
  • IESOL (International ESOL): Communicator + Spoken English (ISESOL): level communicator
  • ISE II (Integrated Skills in English)
  • IELTS: Competent user - Overall band score higher than 5,5, and no skill lower than 5,5
  • TOEFL iBT (TOEFL Internet-Based Testing): no skill lower than 18
  • EFB (English for Business): level 2
  • JETSET: level 5 - Vantage
  • Pearson General English Test: level 3
  • Pearson Academic English Test: at least score 42
  • Oxford Test of English "B" level: score 111-140
  • NATO STANAG : level 3 (= B2+)
  • Anglia: Advanced
  • GA Level 1: Certificate in ESOL International (Classic B2), no skill lower than 55/100
  • LanguageCert: International ESOL B2 Communicator (Test taken at the premises of the test provider and not in another location, such as the student's home)

Be aware that the procedure to take the test and learn the test results may be long. If you do not have taken any official English test or are still waiting for the test results at the point of the application deadline, you have to provide a self-declaration stating the date when you are supposed to submit your English language certificate.

The test results must be sent by email to mhci [at] unitn.it (mhci@unitn.i)mhci [at] unitn.it (t):

  • before June 30, 20th24 (for non-EU students resident abroad)
  • before September 15th, 2024 (for EU students or non EU-students permanent resident in Italy)

You do not need to include an English language certificate in the following cases:

  • English is your mother tongue (please submit a self-declaration along with your application),
  • The course of your previous/current degree has been entirely held in English and awarded in one of the following countries: USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa and Canada,
  • You have passed a University exam or test for the English Langauge at least at B2 level (please attach a certificate or University transcript).

Statement of purpose

The HCI Admissions Committee strongly relies on a personal statement to select the most motivated applicants. The statement has to be in English (maximum 4.000 characters) and is expected to:

  • explain the candidate's motivation for attending  the Master's program;
  • list of relevant experiences, and any extracurricular activities which may be of interest.

Curriculum vitae

A brief but complete CV in Europass-format should highlight the most important steps of your academic and professional career and include information about permanent contact and present address, phone number and email as well as a Skype contact if you have one.

URL of a self-presentation video/pitch

The video pitch represents an opportunity for the candidates to show the selection committee their interest for HCI. In the video candidates can briefly present themselves, explaining their interest in the field of HCI and their motivation to apply for the HCI master programme offered by the University of Trento.

The video will help the committee to better assess candidates' application. It should be around 5 minutes in length. Candidates have to upload it on Youtube, Vimeo or other similar platforms (possibly as an unlisted video) and to provide with the URL in this section.

Letter of reference

Letter of recommendation, not mandatory, should be written by one of your professors at University and/or by managers in your company. Your referee have to send the letter directly to us (mhci [at] unitn.it) specifying your name in the subject line. We strongly encourage you to use the sample reference letter in the Download box. Contact us immediately if you or your referee have any problem.
