What is Traineeship in Erasmus+ countries
This programme allows you to do a trainsheep in an European Country, member of the Erasmus+ Programme (please see the list in the Destinations box).
The EU programme is devided into seven-year periods 2014-2020 and 2021-2027, and different rules apply to each period.
Erasmus+ Programme 2021-2027
Beneficiaries
Students regularly enrolled in UniTrento undergraduate, master and PhD programmes, as well as UniTrento students enrolled in single courses. If you are enrolled in single courses at the time of application for the traineeship, remember that you must be enrolled in a UniTrento master programme at the start of the traineeship.
If you are about to graduate, make sure that you submit your application for a post-graduation traineeship before graduating.
If you are enrolled in the EIT Digital Double Degree program as exit student (= second year) you are not eligible to apply to the present call.
Destinations
Universities possessing the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), research institutes, public and private organisations, NGOs located in countries participating in the Erasmus+ programme:

Non EU Programme Countries
Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey (mobilities to Turkey are suspended)
United Kingdom and Switzerland participate in alternative ways.
- UK under Erasmus+ Programme 2014-2020 (the mobility should end by 30th September 2022). Keep in mind that an entry visa is now required to travel to the UK. Please check the British authorities website taking into account that it might take up to 2 months to apply for the authorisation from the British Council and for the entry visa.
- Switzerland through Swiss European Mobility Programme, self-financing traineeships.
Traineeships in EU institutions and agencies are not possible: see a list at the following webpage; neither in Italy nor in the country where you have your accommodation during your studies.
Regarding possible destinations, interested students are reminded that they will receive priority within the network of institutes belonging to ECIU University.
With the Digital Opportunity Traineeship initiative, the EU encourages traineeships in digital skills (e.g. devolopment of applications, software, script, web construction, data analysis, cyber security, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, etc.) available at this webpage .

Duration
From 2 to 4 months for students and PhD students. The scholarship will cover all the period. For this category, students may ask for an extension of up to two months (maximum duration 6 months), provided the extension is approved by the tutors of UniTrento and the hosting institution.
From 2 to 6 months for recently graduated students. The scholarship will be awarded for a maximum duration of 3 months.
Careful attention to traineeship duration in UK: they should end by 30th September 2022.
Traineeship working hours per week must be at least 32 hours. Once started, the traineeship must not be interrrupted by any other activity.
Important note:
If you interrupt your traineeship without valid and documented reasons within the first 2 months, you will have to return the scholarship already received. Not returning the scholarship will result in the impossibility to enrol in the following academic year or to graduate.
How to apply
You have to apply online using the Apply for UniTrentoTraineeship abroad.
Applications are accepted by the end of each month. The internship can start at the earliest 45 days after the end of the month when you submitted your application. (e.g. if you apply any time in July, you will be able to begin the internship not earlier than on 15 September).
By the 15th day of the month following the application, the list of admitted/not admitted candidates will be published online (slight delays might occur during the month of January and August).
Within 5 days from the date of the online publication of the admitted candidates, you have to email the International Mobility staff to confirm your participation in the programme and acceptance of the scholarship.
Application requirements
You can apply for only one destination.
At the time of application you must:
- be regularly enrolled in one of UniTrento programmes, except for single courses students who must be enrolled at the time of departure. For PhD students being regularly enrolled means not having suspended their doctorate programme;
- possess a level of the language of the traineeship equal to or higher than B1. Carefully check how you are asked to certify the language level in the Table of language level in the download Box;
- have a GPA registered on Esse3 equal to or higher than 24/30.
Moreover, if you are doing your internship during your undergraduate or master programme:
- have a minimum number of CFU credits registered on Esse3 as written on Table of CFU required in the Download Box;
- start the internship at the latest by 31st July of your extension year (meaning the1st year after the standard duration of your programme).
- The traineeship has to be recognised in terms of credits necessary to obtain your degree.
For post-graduation traineeships:
- applying before the date of your final exam and start the internship at the latest by 31 July of the 1st year beyond the standard duration of your programme (1st year "fuori corso)
- having already graduated at the time of departure
- finishing the traineeship at the latest within 12 months from the graduation date.
If you participate in a Double Degree programme, you can do your internship only if you have passed all the exams foreseen in the joint study plan and only in a different destination country than the one of your Double Degree. In addition, your motivation letter has to be approved by the academic tutors of both universities, who need to confirm that the internship is consistent with the Double Degree programme. Students enrolled in the joint master EMBS European Master in Business Studies can apply for internship scholarship also for destination countries entailed by the programme itself. This is applicable also to double degree students coming from the partner universities Shanghai International Studies University (China), Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Lituania) and American University of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan).
In case of previous participation in the Erasmus+ programme (Programme Countries, Partner Countries/International Credit Mobility or Erasmus Mundus), the total number of months spent in the previous experience and those that you will spend for this traineeship experience cannot exceed 12 months per degree level (24 months for 5-year Master’s course).
Candidates who have been granted another mobility scholarship for the same period (e.g. Bilateral Agreement) will be allowed to participate in only one of the mobilities and will have to withdraw from the other one.
Required documents
You have to attach to the application:
- the acceptance letter from the hosting institution;
- the motivation letter already validated by the relevant professor at your Department/Centre. To check who the relevant professor is, please see the table in the Download Box "Internship minimum credits and supervisprs"
Missing or incorrect attachments will invalidate your application. Once submitted, you will not be able to amend your application. You can only apply for one destination.

If you are a PhD student there is no variation of the amount based on economic conditions and the monthly scholarship sum corresponds to the first category (ISEE range ≥ € 30.001).
Participants with physical, mental or health-related conditions and an ISEE range ≥ 30.001 receive an additional European monthly contribution of 250€.
Students who opt for sustainable means of transport to reach the country of destination (e.g. by train, ship) might receive a single contribution of 50 EUR in addition to traineeship grant.
The scholarship is intended as a contribution to the expenses related to travel and stay abroad and will be paid only in case of physical mobility and the grant is paid in one instalment after the beginning of the traineeship.
If you want to go to Switzerland, you need to apply for a traineeship grant (440 CHF) through the SEMP Program (Swiss European Mobility Program) which can finance traineeships carried out exclusively at higher education institutions. The contribution from UniTrento is € 200 (€ 400 with an ISEE value of € 20.001- € 30.000; € 600 with an ISEE value of ≤ € 20,000).
UK traineeships are funded within the Call 2020 (Erasmus+ Programme 2014-2020).

You will be asked to test your language competence before and after the mobility by means of the Online Linguistic Support (OLS). You will be given the opportunity to attend an online language course in the traineeship language or in the language of the destination country.

Please note: ISEE top-up does not apply to EMBS students, whether Italian, European or Extra European.
For post-graduation traineeships all amounts are meant as gross amounts and will be subject to taxation. The scholarship amount is calculated on the basis of the exact number of days of your internship and will be paid as a whole after your mobility has started.
Further notes:
- The scholarship can only be paid on your personal bank account: you will have to notify us your bank details before departure.
- The scholarship is meant to be only a contribution to the costs of the mobility abroad. We recommend to check the costs of living in the destination country particularly for visa purposes, if applicable;
- possible fringe benefits (e.g. meal vouchers, reimbursement of travel costs, etc) and additional financial support- if offered by the host institution- are compatible with this scholarship;
- during your internship you will continue paying tuition fees to the University of Trento (unless you are waived from them), therefore the hosting university is not entitled to ask for any tuition fees;
- you cannot benefit from more than one scholarship assigned by UniTrento for the same activity and carried out in the same time frame (except for the doctoral scholarship increase).
