In addition to the already good employment prospects of the engineers of the civil engineering degree classes, dual-level graduates can aspire to top roles in international companies: China is one of the most important trading partners for Italy.

What are the requirements at the time of departure?

  • have earned at least 48 ECTS before the leaving for the host Institution;
  • a weighted average of marks of at least 25/30.
A basic knowledge of the Chinese language will be considered an advantage.

How long does mobility abroad take?

The mobility lasts 3 semesters.

Study plan

UniTrento students are required to:
 
- complete 60 ECTS of the first year of the Master's Degree at UniTrento;
- remain for at least three semesters at the Host Institution and obtain at least 43 Chinese credits (equivalent to 77 ECTS) at Tongji including seminars, Chinese language courses, academic activities other than courses, and the master thesis work, according to the study plan defined jointly (downloads).

Of the 43 Chinese credits, no less than 7 credits for common degree courses, no less than 18 credits for professional degree courses, no less than 8 credits for non-degree courses, and 10 credits for compulsory special programs.
The credits obtained from the degree courses can substitute for the credits of the non-degree courses, while credits obtained from the non-degree courses can not substitute for the credits of the degree courses.
Up to 21 credits can be transferred from the Home University, provided the courses correspond to or are identical to those offered in Tongji degree program. The credit recognition proposal is subject to approval by Tongji University.
 
The credits associated to the defense of the master thesis are to be considered in addition to the 43 credits;
- finish their studies at Tongji no later than the end of the 6th semester;
- graduate within 12 months once they have acquired the total amount of credits required to obtain the degree (except for particular and documented reasons which will be individually evaluated).

In which language?

Courses are in English. Free courses of Chinese language are available for double degree students.

How does the conversion of grades take place?

The conversion takes place on the basis of the conversion table available in the downloads.

Thesis

The final thesis shall be co-supervised by an academic tutor of both institutions and written and defended at the host institution unless otherwise agreed by both parties. 
The dissertation of UniTrento students shall be written and defended in English. In addition, the thesis must include a summary in the official language of the host Institution. 

UniTrento students must demonstrate to fulfill one of the following conditions:

  • paper publication in a scientific magazine (national/international)
  • participation in a conference as principle author 
  • book publication of more than 100.000 words (as first or second author, the first author being the thesis supervisor)
  • patent award (as first or second author, the first author being the thesis supervisor).

Tuition fees

Students participating in the double degree program pay the tuition fees exclusively at UniTrento.

Educational qualification

At the end of the double degree course, students obtain two separate second cycle degree diplomas:
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from UniTrento
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from Tongji
