ME3+ European Joint Master in Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy +
The University of Trento with its Department of Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering (DICAM) is a partner in the consortium of universities offering the European Joint Master's in Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy (ME3+).
ME3+ is an integrated and innovative master programme combining Energy and Environmental Process Engineering together with Management and Social Sciences, and integrating the information and communication technology (ICT) for a 2-years full programme (120 ECTS).
ME3+ is also an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
Programme description
ME3+ foresees three academic semesters in at least two European partner universities depending on the study track and a final semester for "Master Thesis" (an industrial or research project). Each semester is 30 ECTS. After successful completion of the study programme, each study track provides multiple degrees, as described in the next section, which are valid in the countries of the awarding institutions.
Three study tracks are proposed to train the future project managers in renewable energy integration and environment (study track 1), in environment and resource recovery towards the circular economy (study track 2) and in smart cities and industry 4.0 (study track 3).
Study tracks
The 1st semester is common to all students and takes place at BME in Budapest (Hungary) and is devoted to foundations in energy engineering and green economy.
The study track 1 foresees a 2nd semester at IMT Atlantique in Nantes (France) devoted to environmental technologies defined as techniques and processes to control pollution, products and services that are less polluting and require fewer resources, and ways to manage resources more effectively. For the 3rd semester, the students go back to BME (Hungary) to study the integration of renewable energy in energy systems. The degrees awarded are the MSc in Mechanical Engineering Modelling from BME and the MSc in "Process and Bioprocess Engineering" track "Project Management for Environmental and Energy Engineering" (MSc PBPE /PM3E) from IMT Atlantique.
In the study track 2 the 2nd semester is also at IMT Atlantique in Nantes (France), same as the track 1, while the 3rd semester is at the University of Boras (Sweden) and it is focused on resource recovery and life cycle assessment to contribute of the circular economy development. The degrees awarded are the MSc with major in Resource Recovery, specialisation in Energy Technology from University of Borà¥s and the MSc in "Process and Bioprocess Engineering" track "Project Management for Environmental and Energy Engineering" (MSc PBPE /PM3E) from IMT Atlantique.
The study track 3 foresees a 2nd semester at the Free University of Bolzano (Italy). This semester is operated jointly by the Free University of Bolzano and the University of Trento and it is devoted to energy efficiency in buildings including the electric power conversion systems. The 3rd semester ends up at IMT Atlantique (France) and focuses on energy systems and digitalization in smart cities and industry 4.0. The degrees awarded are the Joint MSc in Energy Engineering from the University of Bolzano and the University of Trento (Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria energetica class LM-30) and the MSc in "Process and Bioprocess Engineering" track "Project Management for Environmental and Energy Engineering" (MSc PBPE /PM3E) from IMT Atlantique.
For all students, the 4th semester is devoted to the Master Thesis conducted in a company or in a university, a research institute or any institution where the student can perform the knowledge and skills acquired during the academic semesters in agreement with his/her future professional project.
Study track 3 with UniTrento
As mentioned, UniTrento is involved in the delivery of the 2nd semester of the study track 3 "Project Manager in Smart Cities and Industry 4.0" with the Free University of Bolzano (Italy). All classes take place at the University of Bolzano campus.
The study track 3 foresees also mobility in the 1st semester at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary) and in the 3rd semester at IMT Atlantique (France). In the 4th semester devoted to the Master Thesis students can choose also a Professor at UniTrento as a supervisor.
The degrees awarded by the study track 3 are the Joint MSc in Energy Engineering from the Free University of Bolzano and the University of Trento (Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria energetica class LM-30) and the MSc in "Process and Bioprocess Engineering" track "Project Management for Environmental and Energy Engineering" (MSc PBPE /PM3E) from IMT Atlantique.
The Master's degree "Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria energetica class LM-30" is valid to take examinations to qualify for the profession of Industrial Engineer in Italy.
