Please note that if cancelled an on-line version will not be offered.

Admissions and covid related measures

Various measures will be implemented to ensure the safety of all participants, including but not limited to mandatory face-masks, distanced seating and mandatory Green Pass certification proving COVID-free status.
Sudden travel restrictions and more severe COVID containment policies such as required quarantine may be implemented without prior warning. Therefore, arrival to Trento from many countries in the world could become quite complicated or even impossible. The organization of the quarantine period, if any, is completely up to the students.
Please carefully read the most updated information on measures implemented at the national and international level via the websites in the Useful Links section and the Green Pass Guide in the download, especially meant for students living from non-EU countries.

Contents

This Winter School will offer students in several disciplines both methods and tools to design and conduct sample surveys in many fields, such as socio-economics, web analytics and environmental studies, among others. The approach to the topic will combine methodological issues with all aspects related to practical applications.
In particular, the first week of the School will be devoted to deepening methodological aspects necessary to the comprehension of sampling theory.
The second week will be dedicated to further explore particular aspects, both theoretical and practical, typical of real surveys, such as, among others, treatment of nonresponse, sampling for spatial data, panel surveys.
The study of all treated arguments will be joined by their implementation on real data-sets by using the open-source software R, both in classrooms and in afternoon workgroups sessions.
At the end of each week, two workshops are planned:

  • the first will concern the traditional dualism among census and sampling surveys;
  • the second will address a recent practical problem, such as how to make inference when big data are available and used.

Workload and Credits

The School, taught entirely in the English language, consists of 7 hours per day of organized activities (lectures, workshops, seminars, visits to local companies, excursions).At the end of the School external participants will receive an official UniTrento transcript of records certifying 6 ECTS (+ 2 possible additional credits for optional extra work to be arranged with the academic coordinator). Please refer to the Assessment Task document in the Download Box. UniTrento participants will receive an Attendance Certificate and can enquire to the students' support desk if the extracurricular activity can be recognized in terms of credits or thesis points or extra credits, according to the rules of their study course.
