Albeit being a small town, with its nearly 33,000 residents, Rovereto offers both a dynamic and rich amount of internationally famous cultural and sports exhibitions.
Adding on to the already world-wide known Peace Bell, the austere Veneto Castle which hosts the Historical War Museum, and the traces of Venetian past in its historical center, is the newly-built Mart. This new modern and contemporary art museum, which was designed by the architect Mario Botta, has placed the city among the art capitals of Europe once again.
The MART (Musemu of Modern and Contemporary Art in Trento and Rovereto) and the the oldest theater in the region (Zandonai Theater, 1782) decorate Corso Bettini along with its 1700s buildings. This is where the academic and research centres of the University of Trento are located, which contribute to underline the cultural aspects that marked the life of Rovereto in the Eighteenth century.
Depending on the season, there are many cultural and artistic events that are produced here, as well as in the surrounding areas, ie. the Lagarina Jazz Festival, historical reenactments of the city of Ala (a few kilometers south of Rovereto), the Comun Comunale (organized by the cities located on the right of the Adige River) and the autumn Ganzega.
Here below you will find only some of the cultural initiatives that animate Rovereto during the year, along with many important international sport exhibitions.
International Mozart Festival
The Festival celebrates the remembrance of the first Italian concert of thirteen year old Mozart which took place in Rovereto in 1769, bringing back an atmosphere of old splendour: that of a city cited in the eighteenth century, just like Vienna, Salzburg and Milan.
Rovereto international meetings - Oriente Occidente
Oriente Occidente is the dance exhibition that has been representing the crossroads of contemporary cultural trends for twenty-seven years; this is a great opportunity to see some of the most interesting European creations and to assist some of the most spectacular and diverse performances with investigative cultural close-ups based on different themes each year.
The Mart and Futurism
Since 2002, the Mart (Modern and Contemporary Art Museum of Trento and Rovereto) has been located in the grandiose building designed by Mario Botta, broken down into 12,000 square meters, of which 6,000 are dedicated to art from the Twentieth and Twenty-first centuries, and more than 5,000 are dedicated to spaces used for studying, research, educational programmes and services.
Futurism is the focal point of the permanent collection and is represented by the line of research of artists Balla, Depero and Prampolini, but also includes some extraordinary pieces by Severini and Carrà .
