International opportunities for students

 

Degree awarded 
Upon the successful completion of the study plan and the fulfillment of the EMBS programme requirements, the Université Savoie Mont Blanc (France), the Università  degli Studi di Trento (Italy), the Universität Kassel (Germany) and the Universidad de León (Spain) jointly award a second level academic degree within the European Higher Education System for the programme "European Master in Business Studies" (EMBS) corresponding to the following four national degrees:
  • In the Italian University system, to a "Laurea Magistrale in CLASSE LM77 Lauree Magistrali in Scienze Economico-Aziendali";
  • In the French University system, to a "Master en Droit Economie Gestion"; 
  • In the German University system, to a "Master of Arts";
  • In the Spanish University system, to a "Master Universitario en Europeo en Direcciòn de Empresas".
 
The EMBS joint degree has legal value in France, Italy, Germany and Spain and it is compliant with the requirements of the International "Bologna process" for higher education at European level.
 
International accreditation EFMD Programme Accreditation delivered by the EFMD-European Foundation for Management Development which evaluates the quality of business and management programs that have an international perspective.

The European Master in Business Studies (EMBS) complies with the Bologna scheme. According to the Sorbonne (1998) and the Bologna (1999) Declarations, degree courses in the European Higher Education Area are structured in University Credits (ECTS). A university Credit corresponds to 25 hours of student workload, time for personal study included. The average annual workload of a full-time student is conventionally fixed at 60 credits.
Teaching language
All courses are held in English. Students will be given the opportunity to learn the language of each country where they spend one semester.

Minimum requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree (3 or 4 yeras) or equivalent qualification (at least amounting to 6 semesters and 180 ECTS) from an internationally recognized university, valid for Master's admission in Italy, France, Germany, and Spain, in one of the following fields:
    • Economics, Management or Business Studies;
    • other relevant fields with at least 50% of coursework in Management and/or Economics. For applicants from Italian University with a dgree in a field different from Economics, Management or Business Studies, at least 60 ECTS credits in the following areas (SSD-settori scientifico disciplinari) are required:
      • a) SECS-P/01, SECS-P/02, SECS-P/03, SECS-P/04, SECS-P/05, SECS-P/06, SECS-P/12 - Discipline di ambito economico (Micro e macroeconomia, economia industriale, politica economica, economia e finanza pubblica, storia economica)
      • b) SECS-P/07, SECS-P/08, SECS-P/09, SECS-P/10, SECS-P/11 - Discipline in ambito economico-aziendale (Fondamenti di contabilità  e bilancio, principi contabili, general management, business policy, finanza aziendale)
        c) IUS-01, IUS-02, IUS-03, IUS-09 - Discipline in ambito giuridico (Fondamenti di diritto pubblico, fonti del diritto, istituzioni di diritto privato)
        d) SECS-S/01, SECS-S/03, SECS-S/06 - Discipline matematico-statistiche (Analisi matematica; analisi statistica)
        Minimum ECTS/CFU per area:
        - Economics: minimum 8 CFU
        - Business/Management : minimum 10 CFU
        - Mathematics and Statistics: minimum 6 CFU
  • Minimum final grade: 95/110 in Italy, 13 in France, 2,5 in Germany, 6,5 in Spain or the equivalent in other countries;
  • Proof of B2 level proficiency in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Accepted methods include:

    • Official Language Certificate (e.g., TOEFL 87 iBT, IELTS 5.5, or equivalent)
    • University Language Center Certificate confirming a B2 level assessment
    • Proof from a Bachelor's programme showing English was the official language of instruction
    • Declaration of English as a native language

    The TOEIC Listening and Reading test (or other tests that do not assess all four language skills) is not accepted.

  • Good command of the most common computer applications.

Applicants who have not yet completed their Bachelor's degree may apply for the EMBS Master's programme, provided they meet the following requirements:
a.    For Non-European citizens:

  • Graduation by June 30th, 2025 (all exams, including the graduation exam if applicable;
  • Submission of the official Bachelor's degree diploma as well as of any other degree programmes relevant to the admission process by September 30th, 2025.

b.    For European citizens:

  • Completion of all exams required for the Bachelor's degree by August 31st, 2025;
  • Graduation by October 31st, 2025, with the graduation exam passed (if applicable);
  • Submission of the official Bachelor's degree diploma as well as of any other degree programmes relevant to the admission process by November 30th, 2025.

Applicants who meet these conditions will be “conditionally admitted” to the programme, pending submission of the degree certificate. Formal enrollment will only be granted once the Bachelor's certificate has been received.

Selection criteria
Educational background, English level, other languages, CV, statement of purpose. Applicants having the basic requirements and shortlisted after the first evaluation of the application package shall be called for an interview, which may be done on campus or by call conference.
Fees and financial aid
EMBS participation fees are about € 3500 per year. The aforementioned amount is made up of:
  • € 2500 as EMBS tuition fee per year and to be paid to the University of Savoie Mont Blanc as the main coordinator of the EMBS programme;
  • about € 500 euro per year to be paid to each partner university as local administrative fee (exact amount to be confirmed upon admission).
It is a condition of student's enrolment that he/she has sufficient financial resources to pay for the EMBS. Self-paying students must provide evidence of their ability to cover tuition fees. Sponsored students must provide evidence of their sponsorship.
EMBS students might have the possibility to be supported through grants and scholarships offered by the four Universities and their partners (Erasmus+ grants, regional grants, ...). However grants and scholarships will not cover all costs of living in Europe and attending the EMBS (fees, accommodation, books, travel,..). For further information please contact embs@univ-smb.
EMBS students are NOT eligible for the "Opera Universitaria Scholarship (OUS) and "Eiffel Grant".
Accommodation
Each EMBS partner university provides a service to help EMBS students find a suitable accommodation either in student residences or on the private market.
